Sanger and McKinley both Select Philadelphia Schools
Two South Jersey Banshees standout players will be going toe to toe for the next four years at Philadelphia University’s. Both Melissa Sanger (Banshees U-17, Kingsway High School) and Michelle Mckinley (Banshees U-18, Ocean City High School) have accepted soccer scholarships to attend La Salle University and Drexel University respectively for the fall season.
Melissa Sanger has been an outstanding goalkeeper for our club for the past 5 years, excelling in both performance and attitude. Although being on the younger side of her school age group Melissa surfaced as a Division 1 talent over the past two seasons and attracted the attention of several schools.
Former South Jersey Barons Goalkeeper Paul Royal, who is now Head Coach of La Salle University, decided to rectuit Sanger after discussions with U-17 Head Coach Cliff Simmons and was quick to lock her up. “I see great upside potential in Melissa and think she will do exceptionally well at our program”. La Salle University play in the Atlantic 10 Conference, finishing Fourth after the end of the regular season.
Michelle Mckinley surfaced 3 years ago initially playing for Coach Simmons also. “From the beginning, I told Michelle and her parents that I felt she was a Division 1 scholarship talent and I am glad to see that this has come to fruition.”
A rugged defender who is excellent in the air and has great athleticism , Michelle will be a defensive force to reckon with in the years to come for Ray Goons Drexel Dragons. Drexel play in the very competitve Calonial Athletic Association Conference and finished 2006 with a 5-12-1 record.
Keep an eye on both of these players as they will both have an impact on the Philadelphia college scene.
