The Ocean City Nor’easters have assembled another talented group of midfielders. They will feature two returning local players in Kyle Galloway (Manahawkin, NJ) and last year's Nor'easter Award winner Nick Pariano (Philadelphia, PA). The talented new players come to Ocean City from five different countries: Italy, Brazil, France, Norway and Jamaica.

Meet the Nor'easters' 2023 midfielders for the upcoming USL League Two season:

Leonardo D'Ambrosio (College of Charleston / Turin, Italy)

After missing his freshman season in 2021 due to injury, D’Ambrosio was an impact player for the College of Charleston last year. He started 14 of the 16 games he played in and was named to the all-conference team and the all-rookie team. He was second on the team in goals (4) and led the team in assists (5). Before arriving in the United States, D’Ambrosio played for the youth academy of Serie A club Torino FC. He helped the team win the Italian Under-18 championship in 2019. D’Ambrosio also spent time with the Under-15 and U-16 Italian national team.

Kyle Galloway (Marist College / Rutgers / Manahawkin, NJ)

Galloway returns to the Beach House for his second season. The Manahawkin native scored three goals in nine games for the Nor’easters in 2021, helping the Storm reach the conference playoffs. While he didn’t return for the 2022 campaign, he was on the team roster for Ocean City’s 2022 US Open Cup First Round match. He came off the bench in the first half and played the remainder of the game against Lansdowne Yonkers FC. Galloway would score his attempt in the penalty kick shootout, which the Nor’easters lost 4-3. He returned for the Nor’easters 2023 US Open Cup run, starting the club’s Second Round game on the road against the Maryland Bobcats (NISA)). He assisted on Kaleb Jackson’s opening goal, but Ocean City would fall 3-2 in extra time on a Maryland goal on the final kick of extra time.

Galloway spent four seasons at Rutgers before spending a graduate season at Marist College. In his last college season in 2021, Galloway started 19 of the 21 games he played in, scoring seven goals (2nd best on the team) and dished out a team-leading six assists, to finish as the team’s second-leading scorer. He was also second on the team with three game-winning goals. He was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference MVP.

Galloway helped lead the Red Foxes to the program’s first-ever MAAC regular season championship, and then followed that up with the fourth MAAC tournament title in school history. Galloway would score a goal in the championship game and also convert a penalty kick as Marist edged Rider 5-3 in the shootout after a 2-2 draw. Marist finished with 12 wins, which is tied for the most in program history, but the Red Foxes’ season came to an end in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, falling to Providence, 2-0. It was just the third time that Marist had reached the NCAA tournament, and the first time since 2005.

Maruki Kawahara (Nebraska-Omaha / Tochigi, Japan)

Kawahara has been one of the most well-traveled players on the Nor'easters' 2023 roster. A native of Tochigi, Japan, he began his college career at Iowa Western Community College. He led Reivers to the NJCAA championship game in 2020, and then Iowa Western took the next step and won the national title in 2021. He transferred to the University of Akron where his versatility was on full display for a program that is always in contention for a national title. He played six different positions for the Zips, including both backs, both wings, and Nos. 6 and 8. He was also selected as one of the Keystone Conference's best eleven players as an attacking player in the 2022 summer league. He will finish his college career playing at the University of Nebraska - Omaha in the fall.

Nick Pariano (Duke / Philadelphia, PA)

Pariano was one of the most consistent players for the Nor'easters in 2022. The midfielder was one of five players who played in every game, and he played nearly every minute of the season. Pariano scored two goals and added three assists. While he was a strong candidate for the team MVP award, his commitment to the club and the city are what set him apart for the team’s Nor’easter Award. His hard work during games is matched by his hard work in training. Not to mention bringing energy while working with kids in the Nor'easters Summer Vacation Camps. His passion and commitment for the game earned him the nickname "Mr. Ocean City" from the technical staff.

Pariano added another successful season at Duke to his resume. The former Philadelphia Union academy player started all 19 games for the Blue Devils who finished with an undefeated regular season for the first time since 1999. He led the team in assists (7) and was named to the All-ACC Second Team.

Sander Roed (Louisville / Tranby, Norway)

Sander Roed is another young player who has made an immediate impact on his college team. In 2021, in his first season at Lousiville, Roed was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and the All-ACC Team (Third Team). He scored three goals and five assists. This past season, he led the team in assists with eight and helped the Cardinals reach the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row. His eight assists ranked second in the ACC, and 20th in the country. As a result, he earned first-team All-ACC honors. .  

Andre "Dede" Sabino (Bethel College / Rondonopolis, Brazil)

Sabino comes to Ocean City as the only 2023 player who won a national championship this past season. He was a key player on the Bethel University (Ind.) team that won the 2022 NAIA national title. He was third on the team in scoring with 8 goals and 5 assists. The year before, he scored 7 goals and added 8 assists and won the conference.

“Dede” has already made his Nor’easters debut this year. Back in March, he started and played 74 minutes in Ocean City’s First Round match in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The Brazilian played an excellent game and scored a penalty kick goal in the 67th minute in the Storm’s 3-1 road win over West Chester United. He was in the starting lineup again for the team’s Round 2 match against professional side Maryland Bobcats FC. He played 108 minutes in the game that went to extra time with the Nor’easters falling short 3-2 on the road as Maryland scored a goal on the final kick of extra time.



Tyrese Small (Wilmington Univ. / Kingston, Jamaica)

Small arrived at Wilmington University from Jamaica in 2021 and was a regular starter for the Wildcats. He started 14 of the 18 games he played in and added one assist. Small missed the 2022 season due to injury but is fully recovered and is looking forward to a great summer season with the Nor’easters before returning to Wilmington. Small will be joined in Ocean City with his Wilmington University teammate, and fellow Jamaican Tajhay Williams.

Tajhay Williams (St. Peter's Univ. / Yallahs, Jamaica)

After being a solid contributor in his freshman season in 2021, Williams had a breakout sophomore campaign for Wilmington in 2022. The Jamaican led the team in scoring with 16 points (7 goals, 2 assists) in 19 games, leading the WIldcats to a 10-5-5 record. Williams will be joined in Ocean City with his Wilmington University teammate, and fellow Jamaican Tyrese Small. Williams will be transferring in the fall. Later this year, he will be playing for St. Peter's University.
