3 Nor'easters Selected in 2025 MLS SuperDraft
Ocean City now have 37 players drafted into MLS all time
Ocean City, NJ - Three former Ocean City Nor’easter players were picked in the MLS SuperDraft on Friday. Jansen Miller, Bo Cummins, and Lukas Burns became the latest Nor’easter alumni to reach the highest level of professional soccer in the United States.
Sporting Kansas City selected Indiana defender Jansen Miller with the 8th overall pick. Miller featured in 9 games for Ocean City in 2024, recording 2 assists and helping keep 3 clean sheets in the historical season that saw the Storm capture a third straight Mid-Atlantic Division title. The Ballwin, Missouri native followed up his summer at the Beach House with a stellar 5th year campaign for the Hoosiers. He played in every game on the year save one and went the full 90 in all 20 of his appearances. Miller managed a career high 4 assists and was a key component in Indiana’s Regular Season Title. His high-level of play continued into the NCAA Tournament where he scored the golden goal to eliminate Akron and send Indiana to the Sweet Sixteen. Miller lands on a Sporting Kansas team that he will have an opportunity to break into as Peter Vermes will try to lead Kansas back to the postseason in 2025.
Houston Dynamo selected Bo Cummins out of Wake Forest with the 48th overall pick. Cummins was a member of the 2021 Ocean City Nor’easters squad that reached the Conference Semifinals. Cummins developed into an essential player for the Demon Deacons, locking down a starting role on the backline in 2023, his Junior year. He achieved ACC-Academic Honor Roll in all 4 years at Wake Forest, including 2 All ACC-Academic Team placements. Due to his key contributions in Wake Forest’s first ever ACC Tournament Championship, he was named to the conference’s All-Tournament team in 2024. He joins a Houston Dynamo squad looking to make a deep run in the postseason and should be able to at least challenge for minutes on a team that has some big names in defense.
Portland Timbers selected Lukas Burns out of Providence College with the 74th overall pick. Burns, originally from the Philadelphia area, graduated from YSC and spent time in the prestigious Philadelphia Union Academy before coming to Providence. He became the full time starter for the Friar’s in his second year, and led Providence to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. He ends his 5 years in Rhode Island with 73 games, 6,595 minutes, 222 saves and 24 shutouts. Burns was a member of the 2022 Nor’easters Squad that won the Mid-Atlantic Division title. He joins a Timbers roster where he will have to fight for minutes but could win one of the backup roles.
South Jersey's Path to Pro
With 3 former players drafted in 2025, the Nor’easters continue to remain one of the most successful teams in North America, not only on the field but also as a hub of player development. In addition to a stellar record of results, Ocean City has had over 120 players go on to play at the professional level, including 37 MLS Draft Picks. This, coupled with the launch of their academy, points to the quality of the team's development system. Their commitment to excellence has made the club one of the clearest pathways into both the collegiate system and the professional game for young athletes.
