Alex Rose scores hat trick as Nor'easters cruise to 5-0 win over FA Euro (VIDEO)

UPDATE: Mompremier voted PDL Goal of the Week

The Ocean City Nor'easters won their third game in a row on Saturday night with a 5-0 victory over FA Euro New York at Carey Stadium. Alex Rose (North Carolina / Cary, NC) broke the game open with a second half hat trick after Max Hemmings (Georgia State / Wokingham, England) and Fredlin "Fredinho" Mompremier (Fairleigh Dickinson / Limbe, Haiti) gave the Nor'easters a 2-0 halftime lead.

Rose becomes the 10th Ocean City player in the club's Premier Development League (PDL) history (since 2003) to score a hat trick. His three-goal performance gives him six league goals this year which leads the team.

Todd Morton (Delaware / West Chester, PA) made six saves to earn his third clean sheet of the season. Morton now has seven career shutouts in his two seasons with the Nor'easters which moves him into a tie for second place in club history with Tunde Ogunbiyi.

With the win, the Nor'easters improve to 7-4-0 and are now just three points behind the New York Red Bulls Under-23s for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. The Red Bulls are the top second place team among the three divisions in the Eastern Conference. The top second place team in the conference joins the three division winners as a wild card in the postseason. To put it simply, the Nor'easters need to win their final three league games (all of them at the Beach House) to have the best chance of catching the Red Bulls.

The Storm opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Hemmings headed home a long volley from Kyle Gurrieri (South Carolina / Totowa, NJ) to give the home team the early lead. It was the second goal of the year for Hemmings.

Moments later, Mompremier hit the cross bar, only to see FA Euro crash an attempt off the Ocean City goalpost to keep the score at 1-0.

In the 36th minute, Hemmings sent a long clearance up the field in the path of Mompremier. The Haitian Sensation turned on the jets and ran past a defender, gained control and beat the goalkeeper for his first goal of the season. Mompremier, who was Ocean City's leading scorer and Offensive Player of the Year, has adapted well to a position change where he has spent the majority of the season as an outside defender.

The Nor'easters took a 2-0 lead into halftime but once the second half started, it was the Alex Rose show as he scored one of the fastest hat tricks in club history.

Ocean City put a header off the post in the 52nd minute and managed to regroup and keep the pressure on. Moments later, Simone Raiola (Grand View / Triuggo, Italy) collected the ball and found Rose in the box to make it 3-0.

Three minutes later, Rose added another as Fredinho joined the attack, beat a defender and sent a cross into Rose who beat the keeper.

In the 66th minute, Rose would complete the hat trick with Mompremier joining the attack again. Some impressive passing found Fredinho, who found Rose in the box to make it 5-0 to the home team. For Mompremier, it was his team-leading fifth assist of the season.

The Nor'easters' final five games of the season are all at The Beach House. Their next game is a friendly against West Chester United of the National Premier Soccer League on Monday night, July 2.

The next league game is a huge one. On Saturday, July 7 the Nor'easters will host long-time rival Reading United AC. United are undefeated and are leading the Mid-Atlantic Division and Ocean City needs to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
