Ocean City wins 3-1 to stay in hunt for Open Cup
The Ocean City Barons remained unbeaten with an important 3-1 road win over the West Virginia Chaos on Saturday night. With the win, Ocean City finds themselves tied for first place in the Mid-Atlantic division. The top team from each division in the PDL advances to the tournament.
Newcomer Brad Peters from Eastern Illinois University, scored his first goal with the club in the 14th minute on an assist from Byron Carmichael. Ten minutes later, LaSalle’s Jeremy Ortiz scored his second goal in as many games, thanks to an assist by Sean Boyle. Another ten minutes passed before another goal was scored, this time it was Chris Whalley from West Virginia cutting the lead in half.
The Barons held on to the 2-1 lead until the 73rd minute when Temple University alum Ryan Heins scored his first of the year, to put the game out of reach. Goalkeeper Adam Edwards made six saves to earn his second win of the season.
