Barons sweep weekend trip, qualifies for Open Cup
Ocean City defeats New Hampshire on Friday, Rhode Island on Saturday to earn fifth trip to the tournament
With a 3-0 win over the Rhode Island Stingrays on Saturday night, the Ocean City Barons (3-0-1) have clinched a spot in the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The club returns to the tournament for the first time since 2007, when the Barons pulled off an upset over USL Second Division side Crystal Palace Baltimore in the first round. This will be the club’s fourth Open Cup appearance in the last six years and the fifth in franchise history. Ocean City’s four Open Cup appearances as a member of the Premier Development League are tied with the Des Moines Menace for the second most by any franchise in the history of the PDL (The Michigan Bucks have qualified eight times).
