The Ocean City Nor’easters claimed a crucial three points in the PDL standings by knocking off the Baltimore Bohemians, 3-1 on the road this past Saturday.

The Nor’easters received two goals from forward John Manga, who continued his exceptional early season play and now leads the team with four goals scored.

“John played very well and he’s played very well this season,” said Assistant Coach Christos Economopoulos. “As a player physically, technically, and tactically, he has helped us with four goals this season and I’m sure he will continue to do a great job on and off the field.”

Ocean City was forced to play catch-up early on as the Bohemians struck in the 12th minute when midfielder Sam Wancowicz took a cross from the right side of the field and slipped it past Ocean City goalkeeper Tim Dobrowlski to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Manga and the rest of the Nor’easters, who controlled possession for most of the first half, battled back and tied the score shortly after. Taking a cross from defender Ryan Myers in the 33rd minute, Manga deposited the tying goal past the Baltimore keeper.

In the 60th minute, Manga put the Nor’easters up for good. Myers delivered another beautiful cross into the box, where Manga headed it into the goal for a 2-1 Ocean City lead.

"We knew coming in that Manga was a proven goal scorer and he certainly has been everything that we expected," Ocean City Head Coach Tim Oswald said. "His workrate, positive energy andspirit on the field mean just as much as the goals he scores."

Midfielder Alex Ridsdale added a third and final goal with a devastating strike into the top corner to effectively put the Bohemians away.

The Nor’easters put together a strong effort to control the Bohemians for 90 minutes on the road. The Nor’easters outshot the Bohemians 9-3, and out-possessed Baltimore by over 16 minutes.

Dobrowlski, making his first start of the season, made two saves to earn his first career PDL win in goal. “Overall he played very well. Handling kicking and passing was very good. His communication to his team was great. He has a great attitude and will definitely be a great asset to us this season', said Economopoulos.

With the win the Nor’easters have six points, placing them in seventh place in the PDL Mid-Atlantic Division, but with games in hand over five of the six teams above them. The Nor’easters again take to the road this Wednesday to face the Lehigh Valley United Sonic.

“We have had a very good start. We need to ultimately win games and keep playing good soccer and working hard and staying positive as we go,” Economopoulos said. “Having seven home games in a row is big and we hope to get as many points as possible.”
