Ocean City, NJ - Ocean City Nor’easters are pleased to announce alumni goalkeeper Tyler Miller was invited to be part of U.S. Soccer’s U23 squad for their first training camp of 2015. Miller is one of only two keepers called in to the 19-man squad.

Adding to his national-level resume of calls in to U18 and U20 camps, this is Miller’s first call-up to the U23 squad, and was welcome news that he had been hoping to receive. “I got an email from one of the U.S. Soccer coordinators that I had been invited to the trip. I was hopeful that I would get it so it was a great feeling when it finally came.”

As part of the camp, the team has spent the week in Bosnia & Herzegovina and will face the Bosnian U23’s later today before traveling to Copenhagen to face Denmark’s U23’s on Tuesday. The camp is the first step in preparation for Olympic qualifying which will begin this October. As Miller went on to say about being a part of this trip, “It feels great being apart of this group of guys they've selected for these two friendlies. This is my first time on an international trip. The last two camps were just domestic trainings. It's awesome to be able to experience a new culture and travel the world as well.”

Originally from Woodbury, N.J., Miller spent his college career as a four-year starter with Northwestern University. He earned a battery of awards in his time with the Wildcats including Big Ten Goalkeeper Of The Year and NSCAA All-American second team honors in 2014 with a .854 save percentage(#3rd in nation) while only allowing a record-setting 12 goals with 9 shutouts while leading the Wildcats to the NCAA tourney.

Amidst a demanding schedule balancing school, his college team and a callup to U20 camp, Tyler joined the Nor’easters during their 2012 season, posting 2 wins in 3 appearances and helping Ocean City to a Mid-Atlantic Division Championship and a spot in the U.S. Open Cup.

Even though he passed over attending the MLS Player Combine in order to make contact with European clubs, which some feel knocked his draft prospects down, Miller was still drafted in the second round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft(#33 overall) by the Seattle Sounders. Tyler would opt to sign a contract this past January to play in Germany with the club SVN Zweibrücken. So far, Miller has made two starts for the fourth-division Regionalliga Südwest club.

It may seem an odd choice for a player of his caliber to travel to an unfamiliar setting to play for a lower-division club battling relegation, but the hope is his time in Europe will expose him to bigger opportunities. It’s been quite a few months for Miller, with a national team call-up and having to adapt to a new language and culture while also trying to learn a new club’s style of play, it can be an overwhelming experience. However, he appears to be taking it all in stride, “I just do my best to take it day by day. It's been a pretty hectic last several months but it's been a great experience and I'm just trying to stay in the moment and enjoy it.” While the chance to play professional soccer stateside isn’t out of the cards, Miller believes his talent can lead him to higher profile opportunities, telling InsideNU.com, “I want to play in the best league in the world. Currently, that is in Europe.".
