The Ocean City Nor'easters, one of the top USL League Two soccer clubs in North America, are building a championship team for the 2022 season and are looking for a few good men.

With the popularity of the club's recent tryouts in January, the Nor'easters have added an additional open tryout on Saturday, April 16 at Carey Stadium ("The Beach House") in Ocean City, N.J.

The tryout will run from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. and the cost is $60 to participate.

"We have put together an exciting group of top players from all over the world but we are still looking for a couple more to round out one of our best squads in years," said Nor'easters head coach Kevin Nuss, who spent seven seasons with Ocean City in a variety of roles from 2011-16 and then as head coach and sporting director in 2019. Nuss is back as head coach in 2022.

The Nor'easters will not only be seeking to fill the last few roster spots on the senior team, but the club is also continuing to build strong reserve teams. Ocean City's Reserve team and Under-23 team gives young players a chance to be exposed to a high level of play and a professionalized setting throughout the summer as they get valuable experience to take back with them to their college and high school teams.


"Our reserve team has been a huge success for us as a club with a number of players moving into the first team over the years," said Nuss. "In addition, the Under-23 program is a big focus for me going forward. As a staff, we are looking to identify the top high school aged players and expose them to how we work at the first team level."

The Nor'easters will play in their 25th season as a club (19th as a member of USL League Two) in 2022. Out of the more than 100 teams in North America, the Nor'easters have the fifth-best record in USL League Two since 2003, and the seventh-most wins in the history of the league. The Storm also play at one of the best home venues in the country, Carey Stadium. It is nicknamed "The Beach House" because it's located right off the boardwalk, next to the beach, and just a few hundred yards away from the Atlantic Ocean at America's Greatest Family Resort: Ocean City, N.J. The Nor'easters also perform well in front of their fans, owning the fourth-best home record of any team in the league since 2003.

After making a playoff run during the 2021 season, Ocean City is hoping to build on that performance and challenge for a league title in 2022.

The Nor'easters not only have a strong tradition of team accomplishments, but also with individual players. Since 2003, more than 100 Ocean City players have moved on to play the game professionally in more than 20 countries from around the world. There have been 28 players drafted by Major League Soccer teams, including 2019 USL League Two MVP Deri Corfe. Corfe became the third Nor'easters player to team history to win the league's MVP award. Ocean City is one of only two teams in league history to have three MVP winners. In January, the Storm's 2021 Offensive Player of the Year, Simon Becher was selected in the First Round (16th overall) by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Ocean City's 2018 Young Player of the Year, goalkeeper Alec Smir was taken in the Third Round by FC Dallas.

Under head coach Kevin Nuss, who has been responsible for recruiting dozens of those future pros during his previous seasons with the Nor'easters, the club is looking to assemble a talented roster with some of the top players from the region and around the country. A strong performance in the 2022 league season could also lead to a berth in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, a national tournament where Ocean City has upset six professional teams in club history.
