Nor'easters assemble talented, familiar roster for 2022 US Open Cup run
With current college players unavailable, Ocean City alums make up majority of team roster
The Ocean City Nor'easters have assembled a talented, and very familiar, roster of players for the club's 2022 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup run that begins on Wednesday, March 23 at Carey Stadium ("The Beach House"). The Nor'easters will host Lansdowne Yonkers FC, the reigning USASA National Amateur Cup champions. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Fans who are unable to make it out the Beach House to cheer on the Nor'easters can watch the game live on ESPN+.
With the United States Soccer Federation moving the tournament's start date from early May to late March, the Nor'easters and other USL League Two clubs are unable to use college players to fill out their rosters since they are all currently attending their respective schools. Luckily for the Nor'easters, a club that is entering its 25th season as a club, they have a large network of local players to draw from.
The vast majority of the roster assembled by head coach Kevin Nuss and the Nor'easters staff are former Ocean City players, many of them have played at the professional level.
"With the Cup being played in March, it has been a challenge to coordinate players but we are excited to be able to recall some of our top alumni," said Nuss. "The fact that so many alumni were willing to return when we needed them speaks volumes of the culture the club has created over the years."
Among the former players, there are multiple team MVPs, veterans as well as young players, and experience at the professional level, both domestically and overseas.
"It's exciting to bring back many of our alumni to the Beach House for the Open Cup," said Nor'easters sporting director Tim Oswald. "Several of them are retired professional players and being that many local players were cup tied and our 2022 summer roster are all unavailable to play due to college commitments, we went back to our trusted former talented players to give us the best roster we could put together for the tournament. We are excited to see them all back on the pitch!"
The Nor'easters have a pool of about 30 players to choose from for the 18-man gameday roster, but among the familiar faces returning to the Beach House for Wednesday's US Open Cup game include (alphabetical order):
Keasel Broome
Ocean City seasons: 2013
College: Providence
Position: Goalkeeper
Broome was a part of the Nor'easters' 2013 season that saw the club win the Eastern Conference championship, win two US Open Cup games (eventually falling to the Philadelphia Union in the Third Round) and make a run to the PDL (now USL League Two) National Semifinals. After an impressive college career at Providence, Broome was drafted in the Third Round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes. He moved on to play professionally for the New York Cosmos (NASL), Harrisburg City Islanders (USL), and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL), while also representing Barbados at the international level. He has played in three US Open Cup games in his career. Broome earned a 2-0 shutout against the New York Red Bulls Under-23s in the opening round of the 2013 US Open Cup. In that game he made two saves and became one of 10 Modern Era goalkeepers to pick up an assist when he set up Duke LaCroix for the opening goal of the game. Broome also earned another 2-0 shutout with the Harrisburg City Islanders (USL) in the 2016 US Open Cup Second Round against West Chester United.

He finished his college career this past season with the Marist Red Foxes after spending his first four campaigns at Rutgers. He made a big impact as a graduate transfer with the Red Foxes, starting 19 of the 21 games he played in, scoring seven goals (2nd best on the team) and dishing out a team-leading six assists, to finish as the team’s second-leading scorer. He was also second on the team with three game-winning goals. He helped lead the Red Foxes to the program’s first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season championship, and then followed that up with the fourth MAAC tournament title in school history. Galloway would score a goal in the championship game and also convert a penalty kick as Marist edged Rider 5-3 in the shootout after a 2-2 draw. Marist finished with 12 wins, which is tied for the most in program history, but the Red Foxes’ season came to an end in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, falling to Providence, 2-0. It was just the third time that Marist had reached the NCAA tournament, and the first time since 2005.

In 2013 US Open Cup, he played all 90 minutes of the Nor'easters 1-0 upset win over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL) and all 90 minutes of the team's narrow 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union (MLS). Nathan Regis
Ocean City seasons: 2016
College: Pfeiffer University
Position: Midfielder
Regis had one of the most impressive individual seasons in Ocean City history when he suited for the Nor'easters in 2016. While Chevy Walsh (rightfully) most of the attention that year for breaking the team's single-season goalscoring record and winning the PDL (USL League Two) MVP award, Regis was equally as important to the club's playoff run that year that saw them win the Eastern Conference championship and reach the National Semifinals. Regis was the second leading scorer behind Walsh with six goals and a league-leading nine assists. Regis even shined in the games that didn't count, scoring a goal against the D.C. United U-23s in a preseason friendly and scoring a hat trick in an in-season friendly against the New England Revolution U-23s. He also scored three goals during the team's three playoff wins. The nine assists he had during the regular season tied the single-season club record (Ruben Mingo - 2005) and remains tied for fifth on the club's career assist list. He also tied the single-game club record with three assists in a 4-3 loss to Reading United AC (June 16, 2016). He was named to the league's All-Eastern Conference Team. And while Chevy Walsh won the league's MVP award, it was Regis who won the Nor'easters MVP award that year.
In college, Regis had an incredible career at Pfeiffer University. He became the first NCAA Division II player to win National Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. He led the nation in scoring as a senior (24 goals 10 assists) as the 7th-highest scoring team in NCAA Division II history. As a junior, he led the Falcons to a national title in addition to his individual accomplishments and 32 goals scored.
