Ocean City, New Jersey will be the scene for fireworks as the Ocean City Nor’easters play two games this weekend to give fans more reason to celebrate this Independence Day weekend.

The Nor'easters are set to play a Fourth of July weekend doubleheader in Ocean City. They kick things off on Friday, July 1 as they host Lehigh Valley United Sonic, who they defeated 2-1 back on June 1. Then, on Sunday, they will host the New York Red Bulls Under-23s who defeated the Nor'easters 1-0 earlier this season.

The Nor’easters are coming off a tough 4-3 loss to Mid-Atlantic rivals Reading United this past Saturday. Chevaughn "Chevy" Walsh scored twice for Ocean City with Mutuya Mwape getting on the scoresheet as well in his second PDL appearance. All three goals were assisted by Nathan Regis, who helped keep the team in the match even when the team was down to 10 players against Reading.

Walsh has been one of the main offensive weapons for Ocean City this year. He scored five goals in the last two games to earn him a spot on the PDL Team of the Week. He leads the PDL in shots (37) and is currently tied for third in the league with nine goals (in nine games).

On Friday night, Lehigh Valley United Sonic visit Ocean City for a match against the Nor’easters. The two met earlier this season with Ocean City winning 2-1. The Sonic, based out of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, are currently 3-6-1 and are in sixth place in the Mid-Atlantic Division with four games remaining this season. Andrew Kendall-Moullin and Lochlan McLean are tied for the team lead with two goals this year. Goalkeeper Kyle Morton has 34 saves and 1.33 goals against average.

Then on Sunday, the other half of the weekend doubleheader sees the Red Bulls Under-23s come to the shore. The team based out of the Red Bull Training Facility in Hanover, New Jersey, is 4-3-3 in 10 games are in fifth place. Arun Basuljevic leads the team with 4 goals and 3 assists.

This weekend’s matches are the start of a five-game homestand for the Nor’easters at the Tennessee Avenue Soccer Complex as Carey Stadium is undergoing renovations. Playing all of the remaining games at home is a big boost for the club as they are still in the hunt for a spot in the PDL playoffs.

Both matches this weekend will kickoff at 5 p.m.
