Ocean City returns to league play next Saturday, June 18 at Carey Stadium when they host Evergreen FC at 7 p.m.

UPDATE: Nathan Regis scored a hat trick as the Ocean City Nor'easters defeated the New England Revolution Under-23s 3-1 in an exhibition game at The Beach House on Saturday night. More details to come ...

The New England Revolution of Major League Soccer will send the club's Under-23 team to play the Nor’easters on Saturday, June 11, to play a mid-season friendly against Ocean City. The team traditionally brings a high intensity offense to Carey Stadium in a match that will bring the excitement to the boardwalk.

The Revolution recently announced the formation of an Under-23 team as part of the club's youth academy as a way to bridge the gap between the academy and the MLS team. The club currently does not belong to a league and is playing a series of friendlies throughout the summer, including Saturday's stop in Ocean City.

The Revs senior team have enjoyed some recent league success having finished in the top five in the Eastern Conference for three years in a row under head coach Jay Heaps. The club has only one U.S. Soccer Major (2007 U.S. Open Cup), but have fallen just short of a MLS Cup title, finishing runner-up five times in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2014.

There have been a couple of Revolution connections to Ocean City as two former Nor'easters players have gone on to play with New England. Jeremiah White, who played for Ocean City in 2003, was the club's first-ever MLS SuperDraft pick when he was taken by the Revs with the 24th overall pick in 2003. He elected to sign with a European club instead, but returned to sign with New England during the 2012 season. Adam Williamson, who played for Ocean City in 2005, was taken in the Third Round of the MLS Supplmental Draft and spent the 2006 season with the club.

Ocean City fell just short of qualifying for the 2016 US Open Cup and are hoping to get back in for 2017 tournament. These friendlies are a good way to prepare players for playing against professionals and to get noticed by professional scouts and coaches and taking their game to the next level. The Nor’easters have played against MLS teams in the US Open Cup twice, D.C. United in 2009, and the Philadelphia Union in 2013 with both being very competitive games with both decided late in the second half. Ocean City remains one of three active PDL teams (Michigan Bucks, Des Moines Menace) who have advanced far enough to play against MLS teams more than once.

The game comes at a perfect time for the Nor'easters as they will have a road game against the New York Red Bulls Under-23s on Wednesday, June 8, but will not have another game until the following weekend on Saturday June 18 when they host Evergreen FC.

The roster that will be taking part in the game for New England has not been confirmed as of yet.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, NJ and tickets ($8 for kids, $12 adults) can be purchased online or on the day of the game. For individual tickets, click HERE. For group tickets, email tickets@oceancityfc.com, or call the ticket office at (609) 736-4849.
