The Ocean City Nor’easters defeated the Trenton Rebels, 4-0, in a friendly played at Carey Stadium on Sunday night. Four different Nor’easters combined to torch the Rebels in a welcome break from PDL Competition.

The Nor’easters lineup saw a bevy of new faces in the starting 11 on Sunday night, with several starters resting at the midpoint of the season. One would’ve never known it by watching the product on the field.

“The team’s performance was clinical from the back to the front,” Nor’easters Assistant Coach Garrett Franklin said. “We were able to create a lot of opportunities throughout the game and we were able to capitalize on their mistakes.”

The Nor’easters struck only one time in the first half, with the only goal coming in the 15th minute from defenseman Tom Carwile off a cross from midfielder Victor Araujo to the back post.

Forward Ryan Peterson had a golden opportunity to score in the 21st, as Araujo sprung him all alone with the Trenton goalkeeper, but his chip shot was stopped and the score remaining 1-0.

By the 30th minute, the Nor’easters were creating opportunities off the win on nearly every possession, with the Rebels trying desperately to keep Ocean City off the scoreboard. For the rest of the first half they were successful, however in the second half the floodgates opened and the Ocean City offense broke through.

In the 52nd minute, forward Ovan Oakley blew past his defender on the right wing and deked out the goalie, depositing the second goal of the game.

A mere three minutes later, forward Khesanio Hall took a pass from Oakley and blasted it past the Rebels keeper to give the Nor’easters a 3-0 lead.

Forward Carlos, the “Italian Stallion” Pieroni scored in the 61st minute on another assist from Oakley to cap the scoring for the night.

The night was highlighted by the strong performances of Oakley and Araujo, who paced the Nor’easters throughout the match.

After excellent performances with the U-23, the Nor’easters called up of Nick Hanuscin and Anthony Colofranson for the Rebels match.

“It’s always good to call up the U-23 players that we feel deserved it and showcased their talents at the lower level,” Franklin said.

The time in net was split between Borja Barbero and Andrew Garcia, with each one stonewalling the Rebels for 90 minutes.

“We were able to give two debuts to our goalkeepers,” Franklin said. “Borja played the first half and led the team with great communication and good distribution skills. Garcia played the second half and did well to maintain the clean sheet with some superb saves.”

The Nor’easters can’t enjoy the victory for too long, as the Nor’easters square off with Reading United AC at Carey Stadium on Friday night in another addition to the rivalry

“It was good to break the dead lock of the previous two 0-0 ties in the two previous matches,” Franklin said. “Confidence has surely lifted going into the Reading match.” You can watch the full match replay here.

The Nor’easters sit in sixth place in the PDL Mid-Atlantic Division with 14 points with Reading AC in striking distance in fifth place.
