Ocean City, NJ – Big South Defensive Player of the Year Shawn McLaws (Coastal Carolina), the Nor’easters skipper during last summer’s campaign, was named a College Soccer News 2014 Men’s Third Team All-American last week. McLaws anchored Ocean City’s back line this past summer, starting all fourteen matches and leading the team in minutes played with 1,101. The versatile defender proved to be the lynchpin of The Storm’s two shutouts and was often a catalyst of offensive production, contributing three goals and one assist in 2014.
This is McLaws’ second consecutive nod as Big South Defensive Player of the Year. McLaws’ presence in the Chanticleers backline stifled opposing offenses throughout the Fall, and the Coastal Carolina defense ended the season ranked 39th in the nation and posted a 0.85 goals against average.
Timi Mulgrew (George Mason) saw action in seven games for the Nor’easters during their run to the PDL National Championship in 2013, and notched three goals for The Storm. The George Mason striker had a standout 2014 season starting every match for the Patriots, earning a career-high 28 points from 13 goals and two assists. Mulgrew tallied seven game-winning goals, tied for the most of any NCAA Division I player during the 2014 regular season. Mulgrew is a 2014 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Men’s Division I Third-Team All-American.
Tyler Miller (Northwestern) averaged less than one goal-against in net for Ocean City during their 2012 Mid-Atlantic Division Championship-winning season, in which he played in three matches. The senior has been named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Men’s Division I All-America Second-Team, the Top Drawer Soccer 2014 Men’s Division I “Best XI” Second-Team, and College Soccer News’ 2014 Men’s All-America Third-Team for his outstanding goalkeeping for the Wildcats this season.
