Noreasters present Summer Vacation Soccer Camps

Camp offers kids chance to learn from Nor'easters players and coaches

OCEAN CITY, NJ - The Ocean City Nor’easters are proud to announce its annual Summer Vacation Soccer Camps will return to give kids the chance to learn the game of soccer in a competitive and fun way.

"We are proud to be the only camp in South Jersey that is able to provide campers with some of the top coaches in the country,” said general manager Kevin Nuss. “The camp also provides the unique experience of working with the next generation of professional players."

Each camp session will take place over five days and splits the players into different age groups and similar abilities. Mini Stormers, which is for ages 3 - 6 years old and the session hours will be 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. The other age group will be the Lil' Stormers group, which is for ages 7 - 14 years and its session’s group hours will be 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Every camper will get a Nor'easters season ticket as well as a soccer ball and t-shirt.

Ocean City Nor’easters assistant coaches Arthur "Skip" Roderick and Christos Economopoulos are the Camp Directors.

Roderick brings vital experience to the Nor’easters’ coaching staff. In addition to his role with the Nor’easters, Skip coaches the Elizabethtown men's soccer team. He has been the head coach at his alma mater since the 1983 season. Over the course of 33 seasons, he has accumulated a record of 502-140-58, which gives him an impressive .759 winning percentage. Roderick has led the team to 17 NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, five NCAA Regional Championships, and also won the 1989 Division III National Championship. Last year, he won his sixth conference Coach of the Year award and coached 193 all-conference players, and ranks fourth in wins among active NCAA Division III coaches and eighth all-time.

Economopoulos, who also serves as the Academy Director, joined the Nor’easters technical staff for the 2013 season as a sports therapist to offer his expertise in the fields of strength and conditioning, sports massage, and player recovery to ensure that every player on the roster is able to perform at an optimum level throughout the season. After earning a National Certificate in Exercise and Fitness from the University of Limerick in his home nation of Ireland, Christos has also earned a professional qualification in Massage and Sports Therapy as well as coaching badges from both UEFA and the Football Association of Ireland.

Also, assisting in the camps will be players from the Nor’easters roster, who will be providing their expertise in teaching the campers the proper way of learning how to play the game of soccer. The Ocean City Nor’easters have a long history of players taking their game to the next level. To date, more than 50 players have moved on to play the game professionally both in the United States and abroad. Some of those players are playing the game locally with Ken Tribbett and John McCarthy both playing for the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.

This is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to play soccer, get exercise, and make friends. While there are many activities for kids to do this summer, the Nor’easters Summer Vacation Soccer Camp provide a memorable experience for all children.
