For the upcoming 2011 PDL season, the Ocean City Nor’easters will be playing on the same grass field that was used at the New Meadowlands Stadium when the US National Team hosted world power Argentina on March 26, 2011.

New Meadowlands Stadium is home to the New York Giants and New York Jets NFL teams who play on a turf field. In order for the top soccer players to play in that huge stadium and lower the risk of injury, a grass field was laid on top of the turf for this single international game.

The field was secured by the City and has been taken from New Meadowlands Stadium and laid in place at Carey Stadium on 6th Street and the Boardwalk. 88,000 square feet of field blessed by the greatest player in the world Lionel Messi, as well as US heroes Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley. This is fantastic for the Nor’easters and promises to be the best grass soccer field in the state of New Jersey. With a bit of luck and a lot of hard work, the Nor’easters will look to emulate the playing style of Argentina and this field will go someway to help achieve that goal.

Carey Stadiums head groundsman Mike Lenhart says the grass "has been laid and will take a couple of weeks to knit together but it will be ready to go for the opening day of the season.”

The home opener for the Nor’easters is Sunday May 22 when the club takes on in-state rival New Jersey Rangers on the brand new field at Carey Stadium. The game kicks off at 6 p.m. and everyone is welcome to come down and be a part of history.
