Ocean City finishes scoreless with New York Red Bulls U-23s in 2015 home opener (VIDEO)
Tim Dobrowolski makes two saves to earn first career PDL clean sheet
The Nor'easters returned home and tied the Red Bulls 0-0 in tough match.
The Ocean City Nor’easters played the New York Red Bulls U-23s to a 0-0 draw in the Nor’easters home opener for the 2015 season. The Nor’easters and Red Bulls combined for five shots in the game as the two team’s physical backlines dominated play.
The home opener was played in front of 300 plus fans at Carey Stadium. The Nor’easters had played seven straight road games to start the season and with one home game in the books, the Nor’easters will play ten consecutive home games to finish the season.
The contest was a rematch from the May 27th meeting at the New York Red Bulls Training Facility, a match that the Nor’easters won 3-1. The road match featured forward dominated play punctuated by several displays of offense. This game was a completely different story.
Both teams had several opportunities to score but were unable to convert on every single one of their opportunities.
The Nor’easters big chance to break the scoreless tie came in the 17th minute from forward Jorge Guinovart. With the ball loose just outside the Red Bulls’ box, Guinovart came rushing in, firing a shot at the Red Bulls net. The ball bounced off of a Red Bulls defender before the Red Bulls goaltender extending to make a diving save to keep the ball out of the net.
The Red Bulls nearly won the goal on a header in the 86th minute, when Red Bulls’ forward Brian White sent a header towards the net that was snared by Nor’easters goalkeeper Tim Dobrowlski.
Dobrowlski made three saves on the night, posting his first clean sheet of the season. You can watch the full match replay here.
The Nor’easters now have 13 points and sit in fifth place in the Mid-Atlantic Division, trailing the New York Red Bulls by one point for fourth place. The Nor’easters will face the Baltimore Bohemians on Saturday as look to continue their push for a PDL Mid-Atlantic Division Title.
FC Barcelona assistant coach Juan Carlos Unzue was in attendance to watch his son, midfielder Aitor Unzue play in Saturday night’s contest.
