Ocean City Win 2nd Straight, Earn 1st Shutout of Season

Jason Plumhoffs 43rd minute goal propels Noreasters past Bohemians

Ocean City Win 2nd Straight, Earn 1st Shutout of Season

On a muggy evening in Baltimore, The Storm ended the Boh’s five-game unbeaten streak, thanks to Plumhoff’s goal and defensive heroics from goalie Eric Klenofsky.

Baltimore, MD – The Bohemian’s jumped on defensive miscues from the Ocean City back line in the first three minutes of this match, calling upon Nor’easters goalie Eric Klenofsky, and the goalpost, to deny three shots on target. With the unsteady start behind them, Ocean City snapped back into form, gaining possession and distributing the ball to captain Shawn McLaws, who beat the Baltimore keeper on a low shot in the 14th minute that was instinctually cleared off of the goal line by a Bohemian defender. Two minutes later, a cheeky back heel from Leon Brown found the feat of Zoncher Dennis who pumped a shot that sailed just over the crossbar. In the first 26 minutes of the match, the combination play of McLaws, Dennis, and Brown created a barrage of scoring chances, and resulted in seven shots on goal. Ocean City’s attack was firing on all cylinders in the final ten minutes of the half, as crosses from Jason Plumhoff connected with Nor’easters attackers who peppered the Baltimore net some more. Plumhoff took matters into his own hands in the 43rd minute, making two defenders miss on a spectacular individual effort. The midfielder launched a curling shot that bounced off the far post and in, a Jermaine Jones-esque blast that put Ocean City on top 1-0 at the half.

The Nor’easters kept the pedal to the floor in the first ten minutes of the second half, highlighted by two shots from Ambry Moss and two brilliant rejections by Bohemian goalie Andrew Harris. The loud and proud Baltimore supporters willed their team on, and the Bohemians responded in the 55th and 60th minutes on shots from Onwuka that didn’t trouble Klenofsky, and Greatwich, that required a technical save that the Ocean City keeper made effortlessly. In the 63rd minute, Nor’easter Ian Hines-Ike made way for midfielder Jidell Roach, and followed by eight minutes of strong Ocean City possession, Javoni Simms entered the fray, replacing goal-scorer and man of the match Jason Plumhoff. In the 73rd minute, Mitch Grotti came on for Ambry Moss, and although the Nor’easters failed to apply the same level of pressure as they managed in the first half, they effectively dominated the remainder of the game. Baltimore’s best late-game scoring opportunity came in the 84th minute when Ocean City midfielder Brendan Hines-Ike made a perfectly-timed tackle to disrupt a Baltimore breakaway. Nor’easter Jidell Roach forced Harris to turn away another lethal shot in the 86th minute. In the next two minutes, Birnis Adames entered for Leon Brown, and Michele Patania made his Nor’easters season debut, replacing Jidell Roach. In stoppage time, Baltimore nearly tied the game with a header from Austin Martz off of a corner kick that just cleared the Ocean City net, a play that proved to be too little too late for the Bohemians.

The Nor’easters won the match 1-0, dictated the run of play, and might have scored one or two more goals if not for timely defending and key Baltimore saves. Ocean City keeper Eric Klenofsky made a number of tough saves look easy in this match, and by keeping the Nor’easters alive, preserved his clean sheet and Ocean City’s first shutout of the season. Jason Plumhoff tallied an unassisted goal for the Nor’easters, earning the man of the match honor. Ocean City has two massive home matches this weekend.  On Friday, The Storm battle Jersey Express and on Saturday they square-off against FA-Euro New York Magic. Both matches kick-off at 7pm at Carey Stadium.
