The Ocean City Nor’easters, the hottest team in USL League Two, will put their undefeated record on the line against their long-time rivals Reading United AC in a Friday night clash at Carey Stadium (“The Beach House”).

The Nor’easters (7-0-1) are undefeated and currently sit in first place in the Mid-Atlantic Division. The Storm have the longest winning streak in all of USL League Two with seven straight wins under their belt. One more win would tie the club record set by Tim Oswald’s 2012 team.

The game against Reading United on Friday will be the 55th all-time meeting between the clubs in a rivalry that dates back to 1997 when both teams were professional sides. It is the oldest active rivalry, not just within USL League Two, but in all the United Soccer Leagues.

The Nor’easters are seeking to earn their first season sweep against Reading since 2006 and the first three-game sweep since 2000. The Nor’easters won the first two meetings this season, both of them on the road. MD Myers scored a pair of goals in a 2-0 win back on June 4, and Daniel Diaz-Bonilla scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win on June 17. Goalkeeper Felix Schafer earned the clean sheet in both games. After their first back-to-back shutout wins over Reading, Ocean City now has a five-game unbeaten streak against United dating back to the 2019 season.

The game will be played at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, N.J., America’s Greatest Family Resort. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Once again, any youth, high school or college soccer coach is entitled to a free season membership for all home games at Carey Stadium. Coaches interested in season tickets just have to register and fill out a short survey by clicking HERE. Also, youth soccer players from SJEB FC, New Jersey Surf and Cohansey Premier can get in free by wearing their club's shirt to Carey Stadium.

For fans unable to make it out to the Beach House, the Nor'easters are partnering with BFA Productions to provide a live video stream of both of this weekend's games through the digital streaming platform Eleven Sports, Local broadcast veteran Mike Frankel will handle the play-by-play duties. A link to the online broadcast will be posted on the Nor'easters social media accounts two hours before kickoff.

The Nor’easters are coming off a historic win in their last outing. They scored a season high in goals with a 5-2 home win over Real Central New Jersey last Sunday. Pablo Marques became the 14th player since 2003 to score a hat trick to lead Ocean City to the club’s 100th all-time win at Carey Stadium. No team in the history of USL League Two has more wins at a single venue than the Storm have at the Beach House. Marco Torino and Daniel Diaz-Bonilla each added a goal and an assist and Benjamin Cam Orellana assisted on Marques’ first two goals.

The win also extended head coach Kevin Nuss’ personal unbeaten streak to 15 games dating back to the 2019 season. The club record for a coach is 18, set by Dan Christian during the club’s undefeated regular season in 2004.

Reading United are still in the playoff hunt, despite a 5-0 loss to second place West Chester United on Tuesday. However, there is very little room for error. They have lost three of their last four, although the one “win” was due to a forfeit by Philadelphia Lone Star FC on June 11. United haven’t tasted an on-field victory since a 4-1 home win against Lehigh Valley United on June 1. After Friday’s game, Reading will have four games remaining, with three of them being at home. They will play a home/away with Real Central New Jersey, then a crucial home game on July 2 against West Chester United, before they close out the regular season on July 16 at home against Lehigh Valley United.

Their best chance of getting in will be via the wild card, which is awarded to the best second place team between the Mid-Atlantic Division and the Chesapeake Division.
