The Beach House wins: Nor'easters hit jackpot with 4-0 win over Atlantic City FC

For the first time, two clubs separated by about 12 miles of Jersey Shore beaches, met on the field for the first time when the Ocean City Nor'easters hosted Atlantic City Football Club in a Friday night exhibition game.

Even though it was just a friendly, it was a very fun experience for the players, coaches, and fans to be part of such a historic moment in South Jersey soccer, let alone the beach. Thanks to yet another huge night from Deri Corfe (Wright State University / Chester, England), the Nor’easters came out on top 4-0 at Carey Stadium ("The Beach House").

Things did not start off so hot for the Nor’easters, as goalkeeper Keegan Meyer (High Point University/Silver Spring, MD) interfered with one of Atlantic City’s players while going for the ball. A penalty kick was called but luckily for Meyer, he avoided a card, and the Nor'easters avoided falling behind when ACFC's Alexander Satrustegui nailed the crossbar from the spot.

Later, another break went Ocean City's way when Allan Costa (West Virginia Tech / Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) appeared to handle the ball near midfield, but it wasn't called and it led to a breakaway chance by Duhaney Williams (Loyola Marymount University / Clarendon, Jamaica), which was saved by the goalkeeper as Williams barely got enough foot on the ball for a decent shot on target.

Ocean City would receive a set piece thanks to a yellow card for Joao Brum, but the chance went over the bar. Shortly after that chance, Corfe began his big night with an assist on a goal by Brandon Smalley (Florida Tech / Bridlington, England) to open the scoring for the Nor’easters. With that assist, Corfe continued his run of form that has seen him involved in at least one goal in every match this season (including exhibition games) except for one.

Shortly after, Corfe would find the back of the net, thanks to a nice pass from Austin Bihlmeyer (East Tennessee State / Knoxville, TN).

The first half would end with two more Ocean City chances by Claudio Repetto (Coastal Carolina / Genova, Italy) serving up a sweet pass to Ilias Kosmidis (High Point / Thessaloniki, Greece) as well as headed effort by Williams N’Dah (University of Charleston / Rome, Italy).

The Nor’easters would get off to a fast start in the second half thanks to a 48th minute goal from Leon Maric (St. Joseph’s University / Gilbertsville, PA), which was assisted by Ritchie Barry (St. Joseph’s / Sparta, NJ). A 54th minute mad scramble in the Atlantic City box would occur, with the Nor’easters hitting the crossbar, the post and a couple bodies with their attempts on goal.

Joao Brum would come the closest to scoring for Atlantic City FC, with an absolute laser of a shot that went just over the crossbar.

A 77th minute corner kick would lead to the Nor’easters' fourth and final goal of the match, which came from Gustavo Fernandes (Stony Brook / West Babylon, NY). Fernandes’ goal would be assisted by none other than Corfe, giving him a goal and two assists on the evening.

The Nor’easters hit the road for their next match on June 12 against New York Red Bulls Under-23s, which just so happens to be the team that the Nor’easters face in their next home game at The Beach House on June 22.
