Nor'easters offering free season passes to all soccer coaches
Coaches are invited to Ocean City to enjoy high-quality soccer, network at "America's Greatest Family Resort"
The Ocean City Nor’easters are expanding the club’s reach throughout the state of New Jersey and beyond by inviting local coaches to the Jersey Shore to experience one of the country’s best soccer teams.
For the upcoming 2018 season, the Nor’easters organization is offering any youth, high school or college soccer coaches a free season ticket package for all home games at Carey Stadium in Ocean City.
“We wanted soccer coaches from all levels, regardless if they are coaching at the youth, club, high school, or college level, to have access to our players and our organization at an unbeatable price point. Free!” said Nor’easters Sporting Director Tim Oswald. “We feel it is critical to open the doors for all coaches and allow them to see players develop first hand from amateurs to pros.”
“By creating positive relationships and a community outreach approach with as many coaches as possible in the area, we also expand our footprint throughout the region and our brand can become more of a household name,” added Oswald. “One day, it's possible these same coaches can see their own players in a Nor'easters uniform competing at The Beach House in Ocean City as part of their path to the pros.”
The Nor’easters were established in 1997 as a professional team, but joined the Premier Development League (PDL) in 2003. The PDL is the top amateur league in North America, fielding 72 across the continent in 2017. Since joining the league, the Nor’easters have seen more than 60 former players move on to sign professional contracts both in North America and around the world. 22 of those players have been drafted by Major League Soccer teams, including 10 of them within the last three years.
Since 2003, Ocean City has the sixth-best record, and boasts the fifth-best home record in the PDL. They have won two Eastern Conference championships, which have resulted in two PDL Final Four appearances, three division titles and have qualified for the playoffs six times in one of the most competitive divisions in the league.
The Nor’easters have also made a name for themselves on the national stage as a giant-killer in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the United States’ national championship modeled after England’s FA Cup. The U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination March Madness-style tournament that puts amateur and professional teams on the same field. The Nor’easters have upset six professional teams, something only two other amateur teams in the country have achieved.
The Nor’easters have the privilege of playing their home games (from May to July) at one of the premier locations in all of minor league sports. Carey Stadium is located a couple hundred yards from the Atlantic Ocean, under the shadow of the ferris wheel, right next to the boardwalk in Ocean City. Coaches are invited to enjoy some high-quality soccer, get a chance to network with Ocean City staff and other coaches while enjoying “America’s Greatest Family Resort” this summer.
